SAN CORPORATION

For more than 20 years, the SAN Corporation fleet of drivers has been transporting heavy equipment, demolition material, clay, asphalt, sand and stone for area contractors and the construction industry.

“We have great employees, and our drivers are amazing,” says SAN Corporation President Sandy Smith. “While I do not drive a truck, I can manage it. I am a parking lot driver.”

The company was launched in 1996 with just a couple trucks. Today, Sandy has 15 trucks and 14 employees, including a mechanic on-site. The fleet includes tri-axle/quad-axle dump trucks, flatbeds and a heavy haul lowboy. The SAN Corporation service area stretches from as far south as Lafayette to over into Illinois.

“We help clear debris, brick, concrete, including work for quarries,” she says. “If it can fit in a dump truck, we can take it from place to place.”

Smith’s foray into business ownership began in 1983 when she launched LGS Plumbing with husband Larry, who is now deceased. While she no longer leads the company directly, it has remained family owned as sons Dan and Adam have taken over the business.

Smith was certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise and Women Business Enterprise about six years ago. Over the years, she has supported region nonprofits through donations and sponsorships.

“It has really taken off since and our growth has been pretty good,” she says.

To help with diversification, the company now has two flatbed trucks as well as a mobile roadside assistance truck.

“Our addition of on-site mobile maintenance has been important as there is a need for roadside repairs, and we have advertised this offering through truck stops,” she says.

The SAN Corporation team has taken on COVID challenges, which have included work-flow changes as jobs can be dependent on infrastructure work and subdivision development.

“It was a slow start to our season as we were out of our offices,” she says. “We have altered little things, such as emailing paperwork.

“I rely on my Faith, practice and teach yoga, and try to take it day by day.”
